Homeschool? Really?

As I blog hop around this blog party, I find there are a lot of home school moms out there who blog. I feel like an outsider looking in, kinda like the weird girl who can't sit with the cool girls in the lunch room. Since my son is 20 this month, I think my home-schooling days have passed me by. I would not have been a good home-schooler because my first thoughts are : WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT? LOL
I have several reasons for this line of thinking:

1. I had one child, we bored each other to tears - I was not into Ninja Turtles and could not convince him the Young and the Restless was an educational program.

2. If I'd had more than one child, I would definitely want to send them packing somewhere on a daily basis.

So to all you home school moms out there, just remember: once upon a time, there was a mother who had 16 kids and was praying her heart out to God every day that somehow He would provide a teacher and a building somewhere far away from her house that she could send these little creatures to every day so she could get a break and perhaps a job away from home, where she could have conversations with adults. Lo and Behold, PUBLIC SCHOOLS were formed by grandparents who wanted to see their grandchildren and then send them home in the afternoons.

LOL spoken like a true non homeschooler. It does require a certain level of insanity. I also found a large black belt helped too :)

I agree it does take a bit of insanity - but I love to be with my children - somehow I have managed to homeschool and earn an Ed.D... but I have to admit to a desire to "send them packing" every once in a while. Nice blog - I enjoyed looking around...

Thanks for coming by my blog on the blog hop! You have a funny sense of humor, my friend! I agree with you; I just don't think I was ever called to home-school

this, i know, was never my calling. i think it's wonderful the women who can and do (more power to 'em), but alas, not for me!

Kim, I homeschool too. I hope you don't feel like an outsider. I certainly don't feel like an outsider to those who public school their children. It's just another form of education and a calling and if you weren't called - please don't feel bad! I recently had to place my oldest in public school and you would have thought I shot her. The homeschool community at large can sometimes seem a little legalistic and snobby. I had to put my daughter there because she has autism and as much as I think I am super mom, I'm not. So I leave it to the pro's. She is only there 2 hours a day though. The rest of the time she is with me and I'm trying by God's strength to build character. That is the one thing public schools cannot do. If I wanted a genius child who was successful and I only cared about that, I would not homeschool. I simply care about their biblical upbringing and surrounding them with Bible saturated things. We little by little add in things, like talking about other religions or this year it has been the Egyptian beliefs of an after life. That way, I can know when they are ready to hear that stuff and answer them in a good way that reflects Jesus. But please don't ever think that because you sent your child to public school that you are bad. We all have different paths in this life. Mine just happens to be this one and yours was something else. God sees our hearts and wants to see us love Him. Homeschool will not save us. Only God can. Keep your head up!

MB, my head was never down about not home-schooling; if it was down, it was because I was praying for those of you who feel the need to do so. LOL
As you read more of my posts you will hopefully get a sense of my sarcasm.
More power to you and all the home school moms out there. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord via public schools.
