Puppy Love

The empty nest seemed so empty on a cold winter day.

A new work schedule (which I LOVE), left me with a lot of alone time in the afternoons, so what's a girl to do? I mean there's only so much coffee one can drink, and so much daytime TV to tolerate.

One thing I do well is surf the Internet, and read about the lives of my friends and what makes them happy. I kept coming back to all the posts about family pets. We had a beautiful little schnauzer, Sophie, who left us earlier in the year due to kidney failure. At that time, I made the comment (more than once) that I would never ever ever (let's be clear -never) have another dog. Not because i had anything against dogs, but I always felt like she was cheated because we had to leave her alone during the day. Well, these friends' posts left me thinking I might need to re-think my proclamation of NO MORE DOGS.

So, the search began. Google, Wikipedia, Craigslist, eBay, newspapers, and of course, Facebook were researched. All day long. I first looked at all the local shelters, within a hundred miles or so, but to no avail. I feel a little guilty about that, but there were not any that I felt would work in our condo with no fenced yard and new carpet. Selfish? Maybe, but I convinced myself that pets from a breeder need love, too.

I found a potential puppy from an ad on eBay, and sent a text to the owner, who seemed nice enough. My friend, Kim, wanted to go with me to look at them, so we headed two counties over, and found ourselves on a wild goose chase. The address (house number) didn't exist. The closest one to the number we were given looked like something from the movie "Deliverance." We pulled over by the driveway and called the number, then texted again. No answer, so we drove around. Now, this person knew we were coming, but for whatever reason didn't answer her phone.

I remembered another place I had seen online, in the next county, with more expensive puppies but a reputable breeder. I called her and she told me to come on by and take a look. Long story short, I came home with not one but two precious babies. After all, that would solve the problem of leaving one home alone. It would also solve the problem of having no one around to scratch his belly.

Meet Dexter and Draper!

No more lonely days, this nest is full and running over.

I have to say I have stuck to mantra of no more dogs but I suspect if anything happened to my cat.... well that would be a different matter all together!
